Jason McCobb is an expert in Sustainable Agriculture, specializing in Urban Gardening. Jason gained most of his experience in Sonoma, California from Bob Cannard, long time farmer for Alice Waters and her critically acclaimed restaurant Chez Panisse. With the belief that the garden is an extension of nature and something that must be protected and nurtured, Jay never uses pesticides or synthetic chemicals.
In addition to farming and building gardens, Farmer Jay has also developed a program for children called Farmer Jay’s Jr. Sprouts, which teaches kids where food comes from and helps to pass along the lost art of Sustainable Agriculture. He and his wife have recently turned Farmer Jay's Jr. Sprouts into a non-profit organization and together, they look forward to making an impact in their local community by teaching the next generation how to grow their own food.
Jason built a sustainable garden for the chefs at The Breakers Hotel which digested over 3000 pounds per week of vegetable waste from the kitchen that he utilized to grow specialty salads, herbs, and micro greens on an half acre plot.
Other noteworthy gardens Jay has built and consulted for include; Calloway Gardens, Little St. Simons Island, Jekyll Island, Pine Jog Environmental Center, Palm Beach County Schools, various Palm Beach County private schools, Federation of Gardens, Herb Society of Palm Beach, Palm Beach County Extension/UF, the South Florida Fair, Sublime, Dig, Max’s Harvest, Kapow, Delray Community Garden, Boca Raton Community Garden, iPic, and Green Gourmet. Jay also was a guest host for The Balancing Act on Lifetime Television Network and the lead consultant for the Backyard Gardens infomercial.
