Farmer Jay

Jason McCobb (Farmer Jay) is an expert in Sustainable Agriculture, specializing in Urban Gardening. Jason gained most of his experience in Sonoma, California from Bob Cannard, long time farmer for Alice Waters and her critically acclaimed restaurant Chez Panisse. With the belief that the garden is an extension of nature and something that must be protected and nurtured, Jay never uses pesticides or synthetic chemicals. On return from California and for the first seven years of business, Farmer Jay grew and sold vegetables and eggs to local restaurants and at the markets on the weekend
In addition to farming, Farmer Jay has also developed a program for children called Farmer Jay’s Jr. Sprouts, which teaches kids where food comes from and helps to pass along the lost art of Sustainable Agriculture. Through the twenty five plus classes we have taught tens of thousands of kids since 2010.
In 2005 Farmer Jay built a sustainable garden for the chefs at The Breakers Hotel which digested over 3000 pounds per week of vegetable waste from the kitchen that he utilized to grow specialty salads, herbs, and micro greens on an half acre plot. This gave him the experience to help people grow food in backyards, and at schools, and restaurants. Farmer Jay has built thousands of raised beds to help people grow food.
With the mission in mind to give a better food system and future for the next generation, Farmer Jay continues to expand his Jr Sprouts program through new curriculum, books, coloring books, activity books, board games, DIY Kits, and a new app for kids.
